Ordering Packaging
As a brand owner, you will be responsible to design and purchase your own packaging. Proliferate offers a small selection unbranded packaging (tubes, pans, etc), for our clients, however most brands prefer to source their own in order to ensure their products are unique and stand out in the marketplace.

Custom Packaging
Purchasing packaging directly from the manufacturers typically requires a MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) of 10-20 thousand pieces. The larger volume garners a lower price per unit, and the opportunity to customize your packaging with unlimited options! Choose your colour, artwork, texture, etc.
Pure Anada offers storage for your packaging, should you decide to have it shipped directly to our facility. This means you are not obligated to fill all 10 000 pieces at once. Rather, we can take it out of storage as needed. A warehousing fee may be applicable.
Steps to sourcing and purchasing custom packaging:
-
The first step is to email the supplier and present them with your packaging needs. They may offer to send samples (sent to you on your shipping account).
-
From there you will choose your style, colour and logo design. Typically, samples of your exact specifications can be purchased at this point.
-
If you are pleased with the samples, you will submit a formal PO (Purchase Order). This is a legally binding document. The supplier will send you a Proforma Invoice which will include bank transfer (payment) information. They typically require 30-50% down-payment before they commence production, and then the remaining amount prior to shipping.
-
Once the goods are ready to ship, be in contact with your freight forwarder and customs broker (see below).
-
In the meantime, while your packaging is being manufactured, you can work with Proliferate to confirm the products and shades you wish to produce for your brand once the packaging arrives.
-
Keep in mind that it typically takes 2-3 months for custom packaging to be produced and another 6-8 weeks to ship. Take into account any hold-ups at customs, and never expect your shipment to arrive on time! Patience is a virtue you will need to develop in this business.
-
Proliferate will need to know when your packaging will arrive in order to schedule your project into our queue. We realize this can be difficult to determine. However, it’s best to wait until the packaging has landed in North America. From there you can anticipate another 2 weeks to clear customs and ship to our factory in Morden, Manitoba. Going by when the supplier says the goods will be completed, is unreliable. If the packaging doesn’t arrive at our facility by the date of production – your project gets put to the back of the queue. For this reason, it’s best to wait until the packaging has landed.
In-Stock Packaging
Although there are many benefits, investing in custom packaging can be a significant investment. There are a few suppliers (mainly from the USA) who off offer unbranded packaging options in small quantities. The selection is limited, but with a well-designed label, it’s amazing how incredible and customized your product can be!
Customs Brokerage & Freight Forwarding
If you are purchasing packaging supplies from another country, you will need to align with a customs broker. Importing goods will require you to pay freight, duties, taxes and fees. The amount will depend on the product’s tariff code and where the items are shipping from. Typically expect to pay an additional 30% of the purchase price to cover the cost of these extra expenses. We recommend and use Border Brokers for this service. Once your items are ready to ship, contact your representative at Border Brokers to arrange shipping and importing your goods into Canada. They will inform you of the necessary paperwork required from your supplier. This seems daunting if you aren’t familiar with the importation process, but your broker should be able to take care of this for you. It’s their specialty.
