PIGMENT OPTIONS

If you're interested in developing lip products for your brand, you will need to determine your values as it pertains to pigment options.  There are benefits and disadvantages to each one and your target market will determine the best choice for your brand.  Realize that you won't be able to please everyone, so choosing an option that is true to your own personal values is often the best way to go!  As a brand owner, you will attract like-minded customers.

MINERAL PIGMENT

Used in Pure Anada Petal Perfect Lipstick

  • Natural

  • Vegan (no animal by-products)

  • Cruelty-Free (not tested on animals)

  • Organic Certifiable

Minerals (shiny mica or matte oxides) are the most natural choice and many that we stock are approved by Ecocert for use in COSMOS certified organic products. However, they do have limitations in terms of shade range; bright rosy pinks and cherry reds aren’t possible with minerals alone.

•Shiny Minerals – Ethically mined mica pigments impart a luminous, metallic shine or a subtle twinkle

•Matte Minerals – Iron oxide, Titanium Dioxide and Manganese Violet combination to create matte finish •Combination Minerals – A blend of matte minerals for coverage and shiny minerals for dimension

CARMINE

Used in Pure Anada Lavish Lipstick

  • Natural

  • Cruelty-Free (not tested on animals)

  • Organic Certifiable

  • NOT Vegan

Carmine is a natural, Ecocert-approved pigment derived from the carmine beetle that has been used for centuries in food and cosmetics. It is ethically harvested and produced by women in rural communities, supplying them with a fair wage. Carmine is the only way to naturally produce pretty pinks and vibrant cherry tones without the use of synthetic dyes. It fills in for the shortcomings of minerals which are often shiny/metallic or warm in tone. Carmine is a fantastic option if your range does NOT need to make vegan claims. Due to the premium price-point of carmine, a price increase (per unit) will incur.

FD&C Dyes

Used in Tin Feather Lipstick

  • Synthetic (derived from petro-chemicals)

  • Cruelty-Free (not tested on animals)

  • Vegan (no animal by-products)

Synthetic FD&C dyes create vibrant reds, pinks and nudes that aren’t possible to achieve with mineral pigments. If natural and organic isn’t your main priority, but making sure your clients have a wide selection of vibrant, modern colours, then perhaps FD&C dyes are your best bet. Derived from petrolatum, they aren’t eco-friendly, and certainly not approved by Ecocert. However, they are vegan and tested extensively to be safe for human consumption.
